How to get a Polaroid Effect

July 15, 2008

Love the look of an old fashioned polaroid with the perfect little journaling spot built right in there, but not sure how to get it with a digital photo? It could not be easier!

Photobucket Open up the picture you want to use in your Photo editing software and crop it to a size of 5×5. In this example I focused in on my little guy’s face. once you have your 5×5 photo, change the canvas size of your page to 5.5 width and 6 height, now you will see white around your photo. You may need to unlock your background so you can move and position the photo with the white background so it is centered leaving an equal border of white around the top and sides and a larger portion at the bottom. If your program was set to a transparent background to begin with, you may need to add a white layer and position it under the photo layer. Voila! Now you can add some text, use a handwriting font and it will look like a real polaroid you wrote on. So easy!

I just added a black border and a drop shadow so the polaroid effect would show up on this white background. The font I used was GiddyUp.
